Facts
Not all feeds are created equal, and not every feed is right for your horse. Purina has a number of feeds available for horses in every discipline and walk of life. It has maintenance feeds for both easy and hard keepers; feed for performance horses; specialized feed for breeding horses; feed for nursing foals to 2-year-olds; and feed for senior horses. Because Purina makes so many types of horse feed, it is impossible to list them all and their attributes. These are some of their most popular products:
Maintenance Feed
Equine Adult Horse Feed is recommended for easy keepers, horses that don't need a lot of extra fat or starch in their diet. It adds protein, minerals and vitamins, with extra fiber.
Performance Feed
ULTIUM Competition Horse Feed is the highest standard in performance horse feed because of its combination of fats, carbohydrates and fiber. It provides energy for performance horses through beat pulp and vegetables.
Breeding Feed
Omolene 300 Horse Feed is optimal for lactating mares as well as for foals because it is 16 percent protein and has added milk products. Strategy Professional Formula GX Horse Feed can be used for breeding horses, both mares and stallions, for overall nutrition and energy. It has extra amino acids, copper, selenium and calcium. It also has more fats and fibers for added calories.
Growth Feed
Equine Junior Horse Feed is recommended for growing horses that are between weaning and 2 years old because it is a complete feed. It is not necessary to feed hay with Equine Junior because it has preprocessed hay included in the pellets.
Senior Feed
Equine Senior Horse Feed is great for older horses that don't get all of their nutrients from hay or grass. Equine Senior helps horses that can't seem to gain weight by adding extra vitamin C, biotin and vitamin B-12 to their diet.
