Horse FencingOverview
Field enclosures for horses allow horses the room to exercise and enjoy the outdoors without the danger of escaping. These fences also prevent intruders and protect the horse field from heavy traffic. Traditionally, horse fields were enclosed by wood fences or metal enclosures. Vinyl and other plastics, including recycled materials, are now being fabricated as plastic horse field fences. There are several options for horse owners to choose from when selecting a plastic fence for their horse field.
Considerations
Plastic horse field fences are both practical and attractive. The white polyvinyl fences add beauty to the landscape it encloses and they are extremely durable --- able to withstand weather changes without the need of painting and repair. Some plastic fences are durable enough to withstand a horse's kick, whereas others should only be used for show and to line the most visible borders of the property.
Close the Loop
Close the Loop is a company that produces plastic horse field fences from recycled milk containers and other plastics. Its product is both environmentally friendly and extremely durable, and is capable of physically containing horses. Horse owners will not have to paint or stain this fence, and the posts will not rot in the ground. Another added benefit of this fencing option is that, though it looks like wood, it is not treated with the chemicals used to pressure-treat wood, making this also better for the environment. These fences are easy to install and can be cut, screwed or stapled.
No Climb Fence System
Another plastic horse fence option is to use the woven-mesh fencing and cap it with plastic T post tops that connect a vinyl top rail across the woven mesh fence. This is a system designed by the Equi-Tee company, and it even incorporates electric fence deterrent to its fencing design.
This fence prevents small and large horses from leaving their corral. It is also the ideal fencing option for keeping out pests such as opossums and from keeping small children from accidentally wandering into the horse's field.
Derby Fence Co.
The Derby Fence Co. also produces a highly durable plastic fence that is capable of containing horses. The posts are extremely thick, and these fences are easy to clean and maintain. They even add a nice accent to the horse field. It is recommended for all livestock and is safe for the environment and the animals.
System Fencing Limited
The System Fencing Limited company produces the Ridged PVC Vinyl Fence. This is a more aesthetic fence that will gracefully line the horse field with a look of tradition and elegance. It is a more economical product yet it may not be strong enough for horses. Therefore its use is not recommended, but it may be used in combination with a less visible, no-climb fencing system. This fence, however, is a good option for horse arenas. It comes with a lifetime warranty and is maintenance free.
