Pole Building Bracing

Overview

Pole buildings or pole barns can be braced in a number of ways with a range of materials. Depending on the size of the structure, multiple bracing techniques may be employed together.

Pole Buildings

Pole buildings or pole barns as they are also widely known are structures with post based frames. They are built and used for a wide range of commercial and residential purposes and in a wide range of sizes.

Trusses & Rafters

Ceiling trusses are used to construct a building with a spacious overhead much like you would see with a barn. In larger structures, trusses can even support a loft space. Trusses and rafters are used in most pole buildings from smaller storage sheds to very large industrial buildings such as hangars.

Foundation Footings

All simple construction footings consist of setting lumber or metal poles in holes dug into the ground and then encasing the base of the pole in concrete. The posts need to be chemically treated or otherwise able to withstand in-ground use. If you have any questions about the necessary permits to build a permanent structure with concrete footings contact your local building authorities.

Cross Bracings

Wood or metal cross-bracings or X-shaped bracings can be bolted onto the sides and rear of a pole building for added strength and stability.

Materials

Bracings, rafters and trusses can be constructed of wood or steel. Footings can be made of wood, metal fittings and concrete, quikcrete or crushed stone.
