Overview

how build wooden shed : Overview : Wooden Shed
A wooden shed provides convenient storage for lawn and pool supplies. Simply select a flat open spot and you can build a structure to suit your needs. With a little imagination, wooden sheds can even add to a property's appeal. They can be painted and decorated to add rustic charm or a contemporary touch. The size can be adjusted depending on your space and needs. Interior shelves and cabinets can be added to make them even more useful.

Step 1

Nail four 2-by-4s together in the shape of a square. Cut and insert two additional 2-by-4s at even intervals inside the square. Nail these additional pieces in place.

Step 2

Construct four more wooden squares exactly like the first. Cut a wooden board to size and nail it to the outside of each square.

Step 3

Place one square-board side-up on an area of flat, clear ground. Stand up three of the other squares on each of the three sides of the floor square. Nail them to the floor joists and to each other.

Step 4

Insert two 2-by-4s on the open front side, 1 foot from each side wall. Add a ceiling to your wooden shed by nailing the remaining square on top of the three other squares.

Step 5

Place two 2-by-4s together in the shape of a triangle without a bottom. Cut the tops of the 2-by-4s at an angle so the 2-by-4s will fit snugly together. Nail them in place. Repeat the process to create two additional open triangles.

Step 6

Place each of these triangles on top of the ceiling beams. The ends should stick out over the walls to form eaves. Nail the roof beams in place.

Step 7

Cut a wooden board into two triangles. Trim and insert these triangles in the space between the side walls and the roof beams. Cut another wooden board to cover the space between the side walls and each of the beams on the front.

Step 8

Cover the roof of your wooden shed with plywood. Cover the plywood with the corrugated sheet metal.

Step 9

Trim the remaining board so it will fit in the open space in the front of the wooden shed. Cut it in half. Attach hinges to the outer sides of each half near the top and bottom. Attach the hinges to the beams on each side of the front of the wooden shed.

TIPS AND WARNINGS

  • TIP : Paint your wooden shed in whatever colors your prefer. The roof can be covered with shingles instead of corrugated metal.
  • WARNING : Use treated wood to keep out rot and insects.
