Riding Lesson
This week I had a lesson with my trainer Jerry Schurink on my jumper Vanessa. In the warm up we worked on adjustability and trying to keep adequate impulsion when collecting. The exercise was done on a 20 meter circle and involved going forward on half of the circle and collecting on the other half.

When we moved on to jumping we started over a vertical with ground poles 9 feet in front and 9 feet behind.  This encouraged both of us to ride to the base of the jump and to jump across the jump no just up. Once we improved over the vertical Jerry changed it to an oxer and eventually made it quite wide encouraging me even more to ride across the jump.

I definitely felt that I became more aware of using my leg to help push Vanessa across the jump and I felt that she started to use herself more.

Site Manager - Mara Hi, I'm Mara. I hold several equine business related degrees and have earned numerous national awards for riding. I've been seriously involved with horses my entire life and have ridden with many locally and nationally known horse professionals. I've also worked as a working student for hunter/jumper trainers Tammy Provost-Vitello and Wendy Newby, primarily as a rider and instructor. I've worked extensively with event, jumper and dressage trainer Jerry Schurink.

My love for horses is genuine and my desire to share that passion with others is the chief reason I'm working on this site. Be sure to check out my blog for more about my experiences with horses as well as my videos here on the site.
