Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Team
I’ve been coaching an Intercollegiate (IHSA) Team for a while now but this year I’m looking into beginning a high school team. The way that the two associations run horse shows are fairly similar but I’m sure there are some differences.
The biggest difference from a coach’s point of view I would imagine has to be the age difference. Not so much the way that they need to be taught but the difference in managing the different age groups. With my college students I can ask them to take on a lot of responsibility as far as fundraising, organizing, and even driving themselves to the horse shows.

While I know that I’d have to adjust some of my expectations with a high school team I think it would be a fantastic opportunity and I would only learn more about how to develop a team.

Hi
I also coach a(very small) IHSA team and am looking into an IEA team. I have very interested students but we are afraid of how far we may have to travel to show. We are in NC which is zone 3, but all the teams I can find(be googling)are in MD, DE or northern Va. Does anyone know of NC or southern Va teams, Western or Hunt Seat?

I've been seriously involved with horses my entire life and have ridden with many locally and nationally known horse professionals. I've also worked as a working student for hunter/jumper trainers Tammy Provost-Vitello and Wendy Newby, primarily as a rider and instructor. I've worked extensively with event, jumper and dressage trainer Jerry Schurink.

My love for horses is genuine and my desire to share that passion with others is the chief reason I'm working on this site. Be sure to check out my blog for more about my experiences with horses as well as my videos here on the site.
