IHSA Regional Championships

blog post photo
Yesterday four of my team members competed at the IHSA Regional Championships. It takes a lot of work and dedication to make it to Regionals and this was the first year that we had four people qualify.

Throughout the year we compete at shows hosted by the various schools in our region and each student earns points depending how they place in their class. There aren’t that many shows each year so in order to get enough points to qualify the rider has to do consistently well throughout the year.

At Regionals you need to place first or second in order to then move onto Zones which is then only one step from Nationals. This makes for an extremely competitive and tense atmosphere as each rider knows that they have to either win or come in second in order to move on. Out of my four riders, one qualified and will be competing next weekend at Mount Holyoke College in the Intermediate over fences division. This is the first rider the Hampshire College team has ever had make it on to Zones so we are all very excited.

Wish us luck!

I've been seriously involved with horses my entire life and have ridden with many locally and nationally known horse professionals. I've also worked as a working student for hunter/jumper trainers Tammy Provost-Vitello and Wendy Newby, primarily as a rider and instructor. I've worked extensively with event, jumper and dressage trainer Jerry Schurink.

My love for horses is genuine and my desire to share that passion with others is the chief reason I'm working on this site. Be sure to check out my blog for more about my experiences with horses as well as my videos here on the site.
