Hoof care
Everyone knows that good hoof care is a crucial part of overall horse care and this weekend I was reminded of it again when my brother, a farrier, was home for a visit. Every time he visits we inevitably end up going through each of my horses and talking about what kind of feet they have.

This time when we got to one of my horses I brought up that the horse had been having some trouble with jumping and had started refusing which was very uncharacteristic. He noted that her feet looked fine but that her flat shoes might not be giving her enough grip off the ground. My brother recommended either getting concave shoes or putting small studs in when she jumped.

I never would have thought of that! I don’t know if it will make a difference but it is always worth a try and I always welcome alternative ways of thinking.
