HITS Horse Show Part 2
Last week I took my jumper Vanessa to the HITS Saugerties horse show. We began in a level 4 class that took place in the Grand Prix ring. I knew that this was going to be difficult as Vanessa hadn’t been to a show for a while and that particular ring is extremely overwhelming for a horse. The moment we walked in the ring I knew that it was going to be difficult to get around the course, Vanessa was very jumpy and skittish.

We made it to jump number five and then Vanessa became extremely distracted by the crowd and didn’t focus on the jump until the last second causing her to refuse. A second refusal resulted in us being excused and my trainer and I had to come up with a new plan that would allow Vanessa to get more comfortable in the show ring again.

We dropped down to level 1 and level 2 classes and had great success. Next show I’ll start in level 2 and try to work back up to level 4 classes.
