Dressage Clinic
This week I rode in a dressage clinic with a very well known and respected instructor on the East coast. While I am a Hunter/Jumper rider I value dressage as an important part of my training and fitness program.

We began by working on getting my horse Vanessa to bend in both directions on circles and on serpentines in order to get her to accept the bit fully and connect from my leg. We also worked on adjustability as it is very important as a jumper especially at the upper levels to be able to adjust the horse’s stride quickly and accurately.  We finished the session working on the counter canter as well as some shoulder in work.

Throughout the whole lesson Vanessa became more uphill in her carriage, straighter and more through from my leg to hand.

Keep up the hard work!

Site Manager - Mara Hi, I'm Mara. I hold several equine business related degrees and have earned numerous national awards for riding. I've been seriously involved with horses my entire life and have ridden with many locally and nationally known horse professionals. I've also worked as a working student for hunter/jumper trainers Tammy Provost-Vitello and Wendy Newby, primarily as a rider and instructor. I've worked extensively with event, jumper and dressage trainer Jerry Schurink.

My love for horses is genuine and my desire to share that passion with others is the chief reason I'm working on this site. Be sure to check out my blog for more about my experiences with horses as well as my videos here on the site.
