Colic
As an equine professional there is no escaping the fact that you will deal with colic probably many times throughout your career. With 35 horses on our property I would say that we have about two each year. Usually they are minor and resolved easily but we have had a couple over the years that have been severe. While there are things that you can do to prevent it, colic can happen for seemingly no reason.

Yesterday, it was our old beginner lesson horse that colicked. The afternoon feeders noticed right away that she was sweating and laying down and immediately we brought her in and began walking her to prevent her from rolling. Luckily, after administering Mylanta and banamine she began to feel better and recovered but every time a horse colics it is important to jump into action to prevent it from turning into something more severe.

Site Manager - Mara Hi, I'm Mara. I hold several equine business related degrees and have earned numerous national awards for riding. I've been seriously involved with horses my entire life and have ridden with many locally and nationally known horse professionals. I've also worked as a working student for hunter/jumper trainers Tammy Provost-Vitello and Wendy Newby, primarily as a rider and instructor.
