Brando
After a hard riding last week Brando was extremely difficult to ride this past week. At first I didn’t understand why after what should have been a constructive piece of his training he actually seemed to regress. He didn’t want to go forward and instead wanted to suck back and not work. But upon further thinking it started to make a little more sense. I think being three years old the ride not only tired him out but probably made him a little sore. It is sometimes hard to believe and remember that at a huge 17.1hands he is still very young and not that strong.

I decided what he needed was a few days off and yesterday he was much better and I was able to work through some of the issues. I’m fully confident that we’ll get through this tough phase and get to a better place then we were before. As difficult as working with young horses can be it is so important to remember that getting to the next stage often means a lot of hard work and a lot of patience and understanding.
