Balancing Horses and College
This time of year brings many people through our barn that will be freshmen at the area colleges next fall. They are trying to find a stall for their horse to have while they are in school.  When considering bringing your horse to school remember that you have a few options that will allow you to continue riding while at school and that the choice needs to be right for you and your horse.

Some students take the first semester to settle in and then decide whether or not they can balance their studies and the responsibilities that having their horse nearby brings. Some students lease out their horses at home and half lease a horse nearby school, this allows you to have plenty of riding with minimal responsibility. Most schools also offer some type of riding club or team, this choice usually means lots of lessons, practices and even showing that can be a great replacement if you decide to leave your horse at home. No matter what you decide make sure you are considering the welfare of your horse and that you are being realistic about the type of student you are.

Site Manager - Mara Hi, I'm Mara. I hold several equine business related degrees and have earned numerous national awards for riding. I've been seriously involved with horses my entire life and have ridden with many locally and nationally known horse professionals. I've also worked as a working student for hunter/jumper trainers Tammy Provost-Vitello and Wendy Newby, primarily as a rider and instructor. I've worked extensively with event, jumper and dressage trainer Jerry Schurink.

My love for horses is genuine and my desire to share that passion with others is the chief reason I'm working on this site. Be sure to check out my blog for more about my experiences with horses as well as my videos here on the site.
